about

Joana Liu's work is introspective of the various aspects of the Chinese-American identity, extending from the emotionally-charged aftermath of COVID on her ethnic heritage, childhood, and family, to curious present-day senate bills regarding immigration policies.
Halos, light glows, and delicate curves allow themselves to, at times, adorn her pieces.
She is mentored by Ryan Baptiste, MFA and adjunct professor at HCU, who commented: “Joana’s work is not silent… It evokes strong emotions as it depicts her realities. She has the ability to transfer the viewer into a place of deeper contemplation about social and political issues as they relate to her culture.”
Liu is presently exploring gel matte transfers, oil painting, sculpting, digital illustration, and a BFA in Fine Arts at Carnegie Mellon University.
